Z prudkého světla vstupujeme do setmělých pokojů a stáváme se téměř nedobrovolnými svědky mnohoznačných scén. Jsme v intimním světě rodiny a nepatřičný pocit určitého voyeurismu ještě prohlubuje skutečnost, že ve většině případů nahlížíme do ložnice. Nejde však o postelové scény, ale o Polštářovou bitvu – hlavními aktéry pláten Ivy Skřivánkové jsou děti.
Navzdory uklidňujícím názvům (vedle Polštářové bitvy například Hra, Sestry, Před usnutím) však tušíme, že nebude všechno v pořádku. Z barevného řešení, kde se světlejší postavy téměř přízračně vynořují z temného pozadí,
z neexistujících tváří i zranitelné polonahoty dětských těl ve spodním prádle čiší strach. Stejně tísnivě působí uzavřenost scény, ze které jako by nebylo úniku – nikde tu nejsou okna, dveře objevíme jen výjimečně. Hororový nádech svých pláten autorka ještě umocňuje přehnanými rozdíly ve velikosti dětí a dospělých. Snad nejvíce to vynikne v obraze Koupel, kde drobný chlapec v modrých trenýrkách umývá žínkou monstrózní růžové tělo ve vaně.
V malbě Ivy Skřivánkové, studentky ateliéru ilustrace a knižní grafiky na Vysoké škole uměleckoprůmyslové, je patrná nejen ilustrátorská zkušenost
v nákládání s příběhem, ale především skvělá pozorovací schopnost. Ta se neprojevuje v detailech, ale v celkovém rozvržení postav na plátně – ve vzdálenosti, pozici těla a vzájemném natočení postav. Jsme tu jak na divadle, není to však žádná konverzačka, ale spíš scénická verze Kubrickova filmu Shining. Nejvyšší čas vyplížit se ven.

From a bright light we are entering darkened rooms, almoust unwillingly witnessing ambiguous scenes. We are in the midst of the intimate world of a family, and the feeling of improper voyeurism is only deepened by the fact that in most cases we are looking into a bedroom. It is not bed scenes that await us here but a Pillow Fight – Iva Skřivánková employs children as the main agents of her canvases.
However, despite the soothing names (next to Pillow Fight for instance Game, Before falling asleep) we suspect this family is not altogether at ease with itself. Fear is what we feel from the color design, where lighter figures emerge spookily out of a dark background, from the missing faces and from the vulnerable half – nakedness of children´s bodies clothed in underwear. The scene is oppressively closed-up, as if there was no escaping from that place – no windows, doors appear only rarely. The artist adds a touch of horror to her paintings through the exaggerated height difference between the children and the adults. This is propably most striking in the painting called Bathing, where a small boy in blue shorts washes with a cloth a monstrous pink body in the tub.
The work of Iva Skřivánková, student of the Illustration and Graphics studio at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design, demonstrates an illustrator´s experience with handling a story and, above all, excellent observation skills. This is manifested more in the overall layout of figures on the canvas – the distance, body position, and the interplay of the figures – than in the details. It is as if we were at the theatre, but it is not a conversation piece which we encounter but rather a scenic version of Kubrick´s movie Shining. It´s high time to leave quietly.
